“So what we do is we help people see an opportunity that could take their money out of Wall Street and take control of it.” At minute 7.40, he talks about what his company offers.

“So the thing that drives me now is the hundred percent responsibility and ownership for everything in my life.” From minute 13.44, Damion talks about his personal strengths and how he developed his current attitude.

Stacy Tuschl is a speaker, business coach, and the owner of The Academy of Performing Arts in Wisconsin. She is the author of the book “Is Your Business Worth Saving?” where she reveals proven strategies for pulling entrepreneurs out of a rut and launching them toward business success.

Today we’re going to be talking about an interview I recently did. I was being interviewed for a book, and some of the questions made me think about my journey.  Recounting the story of setting up my business so that I could be successful as a business owner and a Mom made me realize that there are some lessons that I learned that may benefit you on your business or Mompreneur journey.

Some highlights include:

I was a business owner before I was a Mom. Many people start out as a Mom first and then become a business owner, but I had a good 10 years of running my business before children even came into the picture. This gave me the opportunity to set up systems and processes so that my business could basically run without me. (minute 2:00)

My pathway to Motherhood encompassed 2 very rough years for me. I had a stillbirth at 8 months and that was followed by 2 miscarriages. I knew I wanted children desperately, but it took much longer than I would have liked to make this dream a reality. Looking back on those 2 years, I realize that it was some of the most difficult times I have experienced. (minute 4:00)

My 4th pregnancy gave me my daughter Tanner. Because I had taken the time put systems in place in my business and had it running without me prior to her birth, I was able to take 6 months off after she was born. That was such a treasured time because it allowed me to enjoy her without being distracted with my business. If you have the opportunity to take some time off like this, I highly recommend it. (minute 7:00)

Transitioning to a Mompreneur wasn’t the easiest thing for me. Mom guilt is tough! I am a workaholic and I don’t think I am well suited to just be a stay at home Mom. So by the time my daughter was 6 months old, I wanted to challenge myself and return to my business. I needed this for me. It took awhile to figure out what the right solution was. We tried a live in Nanny, and that didn’t work. I tried day care once a week, and that seemed to be a better option. So, we went to 3 day a week daycare, and eventually this, along with some help from my husband and family was able to strike exactly the right balance for me as a Mompreneur. (minute 9:00)

There isn’t one right solution that will work for everyone. You have to do what is right for your family. Experiment and continue working on solutions that will help optimize your schedule and keep your family and your business in balance. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. What you do is valuable to your family and to the community that you serve. Don’t think that your work needs to take a backseat to your husband’s job or everyone else’s schedule. Give it the priority and the place of value that it deserves, and then get the help you need to make it work for your family!

Today we’re going to be talking about how I’m structuring my upcoming mastermind group and how it’s different from group coaching.

Some highlights include:

I went back and forth on how long to do my mastermind group. A lot of masterminds are 12 months, but I wanted to do a jump start 90 day program with 12 women entrepreneurs. I wanted something quick but long enough for the members to see results. (minute 4:00)

I’m going to be structuring the mastermind group with a weekly video call. Every week, we’ll be coming together to share our wins from the past week and then everyone will check in to see if they’ve accomplished last week’s goals. The nice thing about being in a paid mastermind group is there’s a facilitator, so I’ll be keeping track of all this so we can go back and see goals from 90 days ago or maybe just from last week. Some people don’t remember what their goals were, so this is going to help them stay accountable. (minute 5:00)

There is a difference between group coaching and a mastermind – in my group coaching, people are there to get my feedback and they’re coming to me to have me actually coach them. However in a mastermind, you are in it for everyone’s feedback. You will be getting opinions from not only me, but from 11 other women. It’s like having a focus group right there to find a quick answer. (minute 6:00)

Just the higher price point alone is going to get people who are dedicated – they are committed, they are ready to go. This just wasn’t something that I was taking any of the first 12 women that apply. I had to let everyone know that I was looking over the applications that are filled out and then jumping on the phone with each applicant to confirm that they’re a good fit for one another. So, that’s another big difference between group coaching and a mastermind program. You really have to be more selective when figuring out if people are going to be able to work together well. (minute 9:00)

Today we’re going to be talking about the importance of accountability and having key people in your life that can help you do that.

Some highlights include:

When you commit to something while having other people hold you accountable, you’re going to get more done than ever before. (minute 1:00)

When you find somebody that’s like-minded and on the same mission to take their business and life to that next level, it can do some incredible things for your business. (minute 3:00)

For the last 11 years, I’ve always had a coach. I’ve made a commitment to myself that I was going to find someone who was doing what I wanted to do that could help me get there faster. When I decided to start an online business, I went to a small workshop to learn from someone who was killing it in the online space. Following someone who knows what they’re doing is better than starting it alone. (minute 4:00)

Find an accountability partner who you check in with every single week. Share your wins with them, your learning lessons (don’t call them losses), what you’re working on, and your goals for next week. The best advice I can give you is to find a go-getter. Find someone you admire and you know is always doing big stuff, somebody who you think “can I keep up with them?” (minute 5:00)

Join a mastermind group — a group of people who have a common objective in mind and they work together to achieve it. I’ve been involved in many mastermind groups throughout the years and I 100% believe that you need to get involved. (minute 6:00)

Do you know why most people fail with their goals? Keep that question in the back of your mind when I tell you about a call that I had around 6 months ago – it was a consult with a small business owner. We started to peel back, layer by layer where she was in her business and where she wanted to be. And like most of the passionate entrepreneurs that I work with, she wanted to have a six figure business and she wanted it now. However, there were many gaps that she needed to fill before she could get there.

Today, we’re going to be talking about how important it is to take the time to create a strategy to succeed.

Some highlights include:

When I can hear it in someone’s voice that they want to give up, my heart is breaking for those people. That was part of the reason why I wrote my book “Is Your Business Worth Saving.” I’m hoping and praying that I can help people turn their business from a struggle to success, but it doesn’t happen overnight. (minute 4:00)

Most entrepreneurs these days create these big, bold goals without taking the time to create a strategy and honor the steps that go into each phase. It literally equals deliberately setting yourself up for failure. I’m not asking you to play it small or set these realistic goals – I want you to dream big, I don’t want you to play small. I’m all about expanding your vision and dreaming as big as you can, but then that dream also has be broken down into bite size goals so that you can effortlessly achieve it. (minute 4:00)

I love when people dream big and say their goal is seven figures and that’s amazing, but let’s make sure that we hit four, five and six before we start hitting seven. (minute 6:00)

Should you hire family members to work in your business? Liz asked me this question because she knows that I work with my sister, and Liz was curious if a similar situation would work for her. My sister Jamie is the general manager of my performing arts academies and we have been working together for probably 6 years or more now. So today, I’m going to share with you the ups and downs, the pros and the cons.

Some highlights include:

You need to have specific roles and be very clear of who does what. Don’t step on each other’s toes because that can go very bad very quickly. (minute 3:00)

Pick your battles. I love everything my way and in the beginning I would always say no we do it this way, but then Jamie had said to me that for me to not be involved in everything, I had to trust her to make decisions. And she was absolutely right. (minute 4:00)

Communication is key, but don’t over communicate. You have to trust each other and not oversee everything. (minute 5:00)

Now am I saying yes you should absolutely hire family? No, not exactly. I think there are some family members that can make it work and then some that I don’t think would be a good idea. Do you and your family member that you’d work with have complementary personalities or are you the same person? I can’t imagine working with someone just like me. (minute 6:00)

Before you hire, I highly suggest talking about important things like pay, raises, time off, etc. If you’re at the stage of your business where you’re not making much money yet, do you want your family member to make as little as you do? If so, you should probably make them a business partner and not an employee. (minute 7:00)

There are a lot of reasons you can probably think for not hiring family members, but for me, I could never trust anyone like I trust my sister. I know Jamie always has my business as her number one priority, and she treats it like it’s her business and that is honestly priceless. (minute 9:00)

I recently got back from an industry specific event and it was such a great refresher. It was also a big wake up call because I realized that I needed to really stay on top of the systems that get used in my business. We’ve all heard people say work on your business, not in your business, and I make that a reality. However, systems can get really dated and not as effective when you aren’t the one physically doing it anymore. So all of sudden you watch someone do something they way you said to do it and you realized that the system is two years old and it needs updating.

Some highlights include:

You need to be involved in industry specific events as well as events that deal with a bunch of different industries. At industry specific events, you will learn best practices for your industry, but by going to events that deal with multiple industries, you will pick up ideas from other industries that you can implement in your own. Your competition might not have these ideas, so it’s a great way to stand out. (minute 1:00)

I have been very, very busy, personally and professionally, and I slacked a little bit on going to any industry specific events. When I attended one recently, I learned about how important it is to check your systems annually. (minute 3:00)

Even if you can’t attend an event for personal or professional reasons, send someone to the event. Send someone who will take the notes for you and bring back great ideas. But make sure you send the right person. Some employees get overwhelmed and others get excited. (minute 5:00)
